Quiz: Old St. Croix Non Plus UltraOld St. Croix Spirits has donated €13,240 to the preservation of this unique and historic warship.
The Frigate Jylland, which is one of the world’s largest and oldest wooden ships, played a central role in the history of the Danish navy. The ship visited the Danish West Indian Islands five times where the pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise founded his pharmacy and began the production of the now-famous Old St. Croix rum.
“It is this historical connection that inspires us to support the preservation of the Frigate Jylland, so that future generations can appreciate and learn from our shared past,” says Michael Bielefeldt, Director of Old St. Croix Spirits. In the top picture, Michael Bielefeldt presents the check to Connie Riddersholm, the Event & Retail Coordinator of the Frigate Jylland.
Old St. Croix fans help secure the ship for posterity
Today, the Frigate Jylland serves as a museum ship in Ebeltoft, Denmark, and is visited each year by thousands of guests. With the donation from Old St. Croix Spirits, further funds are secured for necessary restorations and maintenance, allowing the ship to continue to be a source of knowledge and inspiration for visitors from all over the world.
“We are proud to contribute to the important restoration work, and we thank all Old St. Croix fans who have purchased a bottle of ‘Fregatten Jylland‘ and have thus been a part of the contribution,” says Micheal Bielefeldt.
A celebration day with tastings from Old St. Croix
160th-anniversary celebration of the Frigate’s participation in the Battle of Helgoland takes place on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 9, 2024, on and around the frigate in Ebeltoft. For the occasion, tastings of “Fregatten Jylland” and other rum blends from Old St. Croix will be served.
Our Frigate Jylland blend is an exclusive edition of our popular Danish Navy series. Each sip is a journey back in time to experience what is said to have maintained the morale of Danish sailors during the 1800’s. Today we blend our products with respect to how they were made back in Albert Heinrich Riise’s original apothecary on the island of Saint Thomas in the Danish West Indies, and you can find The Frigate Jylland permanently docked in Ebeltoft, Denmark as a reminder of the proud naval history of Denmark.
In 2013, we marked 175 years since Danish pharmacist Albert Heinrich Riise first opened his Apothecary Hall on Saint Thomas in the Danish West Indies.
