Rum or Spirit drink?
Many roads lead to Rum
There was a time when rum was always called “rum.” That is still the case in many parts of the world – but not in the EU.
Since 2019, EU regulations state that a product can only be labelled”rum” if it contains less than 2% sugar. As our blends have a little extra sweetness to enhance the flavour, we now use the term “Superior Spirit Drink”.
We now use the term Superior Spirit Drink, but the content of the bottle – and the passion behind it – remain the same.
Rum + Love = Old St. Croix
Old St. Croix’s flavour universe is exactly what you’d expect from traditional molasses-based rum from the Caribbean:
- Sweetness: Brown sugar, caramel, and toffee
- Fruit: Citrus, tropical, and dried fruits
- Spice: Vanilla and warm spices
Our blends are based on selected aged casks from renowned distilleries in the West Indies and Central America. Our Master Blender carefully curates them to highlight the deep, aromatic taste our customers love.

Invite friends and family to a tasting where you compare an “Superior Spirit Drink” from Old St. Croix with a bottle of “rum” that meets the new EU regulations – for example, a French-style rhumagricole. Blind tastings have shown that most participants believe Old St. Croix is the “rum”–and that most prefer the taste of Old St. Croix.
