Old St. Croix Ultra Premium

Non Plus Ultra La Galante

43,4% vol.

Non Plus Ultra means “nothing further beyond” – a Latin phrase said to mark the edge of the known world. The series is part of our Ultra Premium Collection and celebrates the spirit of exploration, courage, and craftsmanship. Old St. Croix Non Plus Ultra - La Galante is named after Columbus’ ship Santa Maria La Galante, which carried him to St. Croix and the West Indies. The blend is based on carefully selected casks from renowned distilleries in the Caribbean and Central America. It matures in oak barrels that previously held dessert and fortified wines, adding richness, roundness, and warmth. La Galante captures the floral essence of the West Indies and St. Croix, with a signature hint of orange and citrus.

Discovering
West Indies

In September 1493, Columbus embarks on his second voyage to find the sea route to India. Ahead awaits the new and unknown. Behind him are the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, which marked the end of the known world. According to a legend, the Pillars of Hercules were placed at each end of the Strait with the inscription “Non Plus Ultra” (Nothing Further Beyond) – a phrase that has given name to our Non Plus Ultra blends. Columbus, as you know, did not find the sea route to India. Instead, he discovered the West Indies, where the Spaniards planted sugar cane and laid the groundwork for the production of sugar and West Indian rum.

Old St. Croix –
A piece of Danish rum-history

150 years ago, A.H. Riise put Danish rum from the West Indies on the world map under the trademark “Old St. Croix”. The island of St. Croix – The Garden of the West Indies – was the center of cultivation of sugarcane and the production of sugar in the Danish West Indies from the early 1700s. The by-product molasses was used to make rum. To this day, the heart of our blends continues to be distilled on molasses.
