1838 APOTHECARY HALL
The Legacy of Albert Heinrich Riise
The Old St. Croix 1838 series is rooted in the legacy of apothecary Albert Heinrich Riise, who opened his pharmacy on St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies in 1838. Alongside remedies, he crafted rum, liqueurs, and bitters – originally as natural treatments for stomach troubles and headaches.
Today, it’s all about flavor. Yet the recipes still reflect the same dedication, respect for ingredients, and love of balance. Whether it’s the aromatic 1838 Bitter, the bold 1838 Licorice, or the sun-kissed Orange Grove, each bottle is a tribute to true craftsmanship – and to the moments that deserve something extraordinary.
