The Danish Frogman Corps - special forces

When the elite soldiers from the Danish Frogman Corps put their lives on the line to protect Denmark and our fleet against, for example, pirates, it takes place in the utmost secrecy. Unfortunately, not everyone comes home unscathed from the missions.

The foundation “Conventus Ranae” – in Latin “an assembly of frogs” – is a veteran association of current and former frogmen. The aim is to help former elite soldiers establish a new life when the support from the public system is not quite sufficient.

In 2015 A.H. Riise Spirits in collaboration with the frogmen created the rum blend “Royal Danish Navy Frogman”. Part of the profits from the sale goes to the important work in the “Conventus Ranae” foundation.

A donation of

At A.H. At Riise Spirits, we greatly respect those who keep the society safe on land and at sea.

“We are delighted to hand over a check to the Frogman Corps’ veterans’ fund, Conventus Ranae. This fund supports former elite soldiers transitioning to civilian life after service. The donation comes from the sale of A.H. Riise Navy Frogman. A heartfelt thank you to all A.H. Riise fans who made this donation possible through their purchases!” says Michael Bielefeldt.

The history of
A.H. Riise

In June 1838, the Danish Government officially appointed Albert Heinrich Riise as the exclusive pharmacist for the caribbean island, Saint Thomas, part of the former Danish West Indies. This granted him monopoly status to produce alcohol in his pharmacy.

Initially, Albert developed rum and bitters as medicine for stomach ills. However, his rum soon gained popularity beyond its medical function, and in 1893 he received an International Medal at the World Exhibition in Chicago. A.H. Riise created strong brands such as “Old St. Croix”, “Riises Guava Rum” and “A.H Riise Rum”.

He was awarded many honorary positions on the island of St. Thomas. At one point he was Director of the National Bank of St. Thomas and was made Knight of the Order of Dannebrog in 1860.
